Using a firewire camera with Skype
Some of you may have noticed that the current version of Skype (5.3) does not support camera's connected via firewire. This was a problem, as we were using Skype to host interviews for live webcasts. I found a really simple workaround. You can download a program called ManyCamthat identifies firewire devices.
Here are the steps.
- Download ManyCam
- Launch the program
- Select your camera
- Open Skype/preferences/audio-video
- Select your device in the drop down menu
After the initial setup, Skype is recognizing my firewire camera without having to launch ManyCam again!

Loads of other cameras work as well as long as youve downloaded a driver from : webcam-osx.sourceforge.net. .... Select your video device in Skype under Tools Options Video and make sure it is functioning by clicking on the Test Webcam button (note: firewire devices are not supported at this time) ...
